Philipps II's proof of ancestry

In order to become elector of Cologne, Philipp II. of Daun-Oberstein had to proof his ancestry by determining that all  his great-grandparents were of noble blood.

After being elected to archbishop and elector, Philipp II. donated two late-gothic windows in the Cologne Dome. One window shows the family crests of his ancestors, added by a picture of himself and his parents, Wirich IV. von Daun-Oberstein with his wife Margarete von Leiningen.

You will find the crests also on the console stones of  the Wappensaal. They are described in the "Guide through Oberstein Castle", to be on sale in the castle entrance and bookstores in the city.
